I've walked up the wrong mountain. I've fallen into the swamp. I've driven six hours to a viewpoint that wasn't worth six minutes. Most of what I'll tell you to do comes from things I tried that didn't work, so you don't waste your trip the same way.

Every place I'll send you, I've been. Every hotel I rate, I've stayed in or visited. Every route I recommend, I've driven, most of them multiple times, in different seasons. The Xplore Norway YouTube channel is the receipts. If something I tell you sounds wrong, check the channel before you pay.

Want it written up afterwards?

If we work out a full itinerary together on the call and you want it written up (day by day, with routes, sleep and eat recommendations, the gotchas for your dates, all in a document you can take with you), I quote it at the end of the call based on what we've covered. Usually NOK 2,500 to NOK 5,500 depending on length and route complexity. Loaded into the app too, so the plan and the audio guide stay in one place on your phone.

How I work

I plan. I don't book.

No mark-ups, no commissions, no hidden margins. You book hotels, ferries, trains, flights yourself, at retail prices, not whatever wholesale deal an agency negotiated. The plan is independent because nobody's paying me to send you somewhere.

For travelers who'd rather have someone book it all, my partner JVB Travel handles the Fjord & Mountain Route between Bergen and Oslo. Other regions, you book yourself or use a tour operator. I'll tell you honestly which is which.

Common questions

Can I book a call if I'm planning the trip myself?

Yes. Most people who book are doing exactly that. They want specific answers, not a full plan. Bring the questions.

Can I send you a quote from a tour operator to review?

Yes. Send the quote when you book. I'll have read it before the call. We go through the routing, the hotels, the price, and whether what they're selling matches what you actually want.

What if I don't have a plan at all yet?

Also fine. We talk through what you want from the trip and I tell you where to start: regions, dates, what fits in your timeframe.

How is this different from a tour operator like Nordic Visitor or 50 Degrees North?

They book your whole trip and charge USD 2,000 to 6,000 per person, hotels included. I plan, you book. For a family of four that's a difference of around USD 7,000. And you get independent recommendations, because nobody pays me a commission to send you to a particular hotel. Bigger difference: their travel consultant probably hasn't been to the places they're selling you. I have. Check the channel before you pay.

What languages do you work in?

English, German, French, and Norwegian. The app and any written itinerary are available in English, German, and French.

How does the call work practically?

Video call (Zoom or similar). You book a slot, send any relevant material in advance (draft, quote, photos), and we work through it. Quick written summary follows within 48 hours. No padding, no warm-up. The call is for solving the problem.

Can I book more time afterwards?

Yes. Book another slot. Most people don't need to. 60 minutes is usually enough to either solve the problem or decide you want a written itinerary.
